This weekender will take place in our recently part detected permission in Wichenford. We have an additional 120+ acres on top of the lightly detected 60 previously visited in February. This permission is now famed our most unusual valuable artifact, the 19 grams of gold tooth plate!
Attendees are welcome to arrive from 12 noon on Friday and depart by 12 noon Monday. There will be toilets and catering by Foodie Doodie’s on site for the duration and the cost for the whole weekend will be £50 per detectorist. All children up to the age of 16 detect free and there is a nominal fee of £5 per head for non-detecting guests.
Dogs are allowed on this event providing they are on a lead at all times, if seen off the lead you may be asked to leave.
There were many other finds made on the day including Roman coins and artifacts and a considerable amount of silver.
Wichenford is just 7 miles from Worcester. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worcester
It is first mentioned in a list of charters put together c1100 AD. It was well settled by 1299, when the Bishop of Worcester’s registers list names that are still in use today.
The fact that the name ‘Green’ is used throughout the village, wherever a collection of half a dozen houses or less cluster round an open space, betrays our origins. The village was probably created piecemeal out of wood clearance, beginning in the years just after the Norman Conquest, i.e. post 1066.
Many of our older houses remain secret, hidden down long drives or behind newer facades. The Forge is the most conspicuous dating from 1730. The brick buildings at Rimmers Farm and Bury End Town date only to the early 19th century, but records show that farms have stood on the same site for centuries. Wichenford Court has timbers in its roof that belie its Queen Anne façade. They are re-used from the previous medieval house; its barn appears to have been extended by the use of many more.
The oldest house in the village only reveals its age of c 1450 on close examination of its beams
