New in buy gold wow patch 3.3.0, the Tuskarr of the Kalu’ak are proud to introduce the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby. server time, the cry goes out announcing the beginning of the contest. The objective is to be the first to catch a Blacktip Shark and bring it to Elder Clearwater in Dalaran. Do this, and win respect with the Kalu as well as an amazing prize.

While in some aspects this new fishing contest is very much like the Stranglethorn contest, which still occurs every Sunday afternoon, there are a few interesting differences. There is just one fish to catch, not forty AND almost any pool in Northrend can be fished. There are no special pools.

The requirements for participation are a fishing skill and you must have the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. You must be able to fish in Northrend and visit Dalaran. There is no quest to accept before the start of the derby, simply be somewhere in Northrend, by a pool, ready to start fishing. Elder Clearwater arrives in Dalaran one hour before the contest. Five minutes before the start he will yell a warning. Yells cannot be heard in The Frozen Sea.

To catch the shark, fish any pool in Northrend where Pygmy Suckerfish are found. You can fish open water in Northrend where Pygmy Suckerfish are caught, but the chance of catching the winning fish is lower. Keep moving between pools until you catch a Blacktip Shark. These sharks are bound to the angler who caught them and have a one hour duration before they decay and disappear.

As soon as you catch a shark, get to Dalaran as fast as possible. Elder Clearwater is standing next to the Eventide Fountain. The first angler to deliver their Blacktip Shark each week has a choice of 2 rewards. One being the Dread Pirate ring, a bind on account ring with stats that scales to the players level. This is currently the only heirloom ring in the game. The other reward choice is a pair of cloth boots, the Boots of the Bay. These boots give an increase to fishing skill as well as a use feature that whisks you away to the Booty Bay bar.

Winning the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby awards the achievement “Master Angler of Azeroth”. The same achievement can be gained by winning the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. The Master Angler is considered the most challenging part of becoming an accomplished angler and earning the Salty title.
