Saturday Dig, Faldingworth, Middle Rasen, Lincolnshire. 45 Acres of Stubble. 17th June.

The Faldingworth dig details are as follows: The postcode is LN8 3SE and this takes you to the center of Faldingworth heading towards Grimsby. Dig approx 1 mile on right round the bend.

 

This dig will take place on 45 acres of stubble in Faldingworth, Middle Rasen, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

Numbers are limited to 60 so if you wish to attend, please be prompt getting your name down to ensure a place.

Faldingworth Grade II listed Anglican church, dedicated to All Saints,dates from 1549, and is currently part of the Middle Rasen Group of parishes.

The village of Middle Rasen has had two churches. A church dedicated to St Paul Middle Rasen Drax took part of its name from the parent house of Drax Priory in Yorkshire. In 1846 St Paul’s comprised a nave, chancel, South aisle and western tower, with the probable remains of a demolished north aisle and north chapel. – it was demolished in 1860, with parts of its fabric used to restore of the church of St Peter. Grade II listed St Peter’s church dates from the 12th century and was built by the monks of Tupholme Abbey; Saint Paul’s was operated by the Drax Priory.

On 27 February 2008 a significant earthquake occurred, centred on Middle Rasen, approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north from Market Raven. The earthquake, which according to the British Geological Survey measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale, struck at a depth of 11.6 miles (18.7 km) and was felt across much of the UK from Edinburgh to Plymouth, and as far away as Bangor in Northern Ireland and Haarlem in the Netherlands. The 10-second quake was the largest recorded example in the United Kingdom since the 1984 Llŷn Peninsula earthquake struck North Wales.

And find of this nature not reported will entail the finders details being passed to the relevant authority.

    I would like to bring my wife as well . What is the cost for us as non members and is there anything I need to do first -like get insurance?

      Hi John! Non-members day rate is £20. You will both need NCMD insurance if both digging which can be obtained online at http://www.NCMD.co.uk. It’s just £8 per annum. It’s unlikely you will get your cards back in time for this event but if you just print out a copy of your payment/email receipt etc.,we are happy to accept this. Hope to see you at the event..
