THE ADDRESS FOR THIS EVENT IS OX12 8QU LOOK OUT FOR ADMIN.
As you approach the post code (about half a mile before it) there’s a sign on the right saying PRIVATE ROAD, turn there an drive down until you see us thank you.
This event will be held on 100 acres of new undetecting land at one of Let’s Go Digging;s favourite permissions on Saturday 24th February. On the previous 2 visits to this farm we have seen Rings including Gold, Celtic Units, Roman, Lots of Hammered and various other coins and Artifacts There will be catering available at this event with thanks to Nigel @ Foodie Doodies. Also a toilet onsite.
For those of you who didn’t manage to make this permission on the last visits, the earliest reference to West Hendred is the granting of several hides of land to ‘Thegn Brihtric’ by Eadwig in AD 955 and by Edgar the Peaceful in AD 964 to Abingdon Abbey. In 1538 Corpus Christi College, Oxford became the Lord of the Manor. The college still owns considerable land in the village and surrounding area.
The Church of England parish church of the Holy Trinity is a 13th-century building on the site of a former wooden Saxon church, with small flying buttresses and a series of carved sundials on the wall outside.
The most notable historical element of the church is the floor tiling. These are good examples, if worn, of medieval tiles. Holy Trinity is a Grade I listed building as it is predominantly representative of one phase of building.
The Icknield Way https:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icknield_Way.org/wiki/Icknield_Way and The Ridgeway cross the parish in the south.
We are limited to 150 people for this event so once its full please do not message us asking to be added as we are unable to do so. Thanks
