This event is NOT TO BE MISSED!
Saturday 106 Acres of wheat stubble, right on the RIDGEWAY and Sunday, 103 acres adjacent to the superb land we had on the last visit! This is ALL NEW, UNDETECTED and likely to produce yet more stunning finds like the ones below, just a few of many more shown in the video further down!
This event will be CAMPING ONLY. ***
Our first visit to this permission had over 150 people booked in and many disappointed members who left it too late booking, so if you want to make sure you are on this dig, get your name down as soon as possible!
The cost for this weekend will be just £45 which will include camping from Friday to Sunday, toilet facilities provided, catering on-site and 24 HOURS DETECTING! We will start each day at 07:50 with a briefing and onto the fields for 08:00. The day will not finish until 20:00, so a full 12 hours per day for each detectorist!
This is the video of the last visit, take a look at just SOME of the finds that were shown in just one days detecting! From SAXON to MEDIEVAL and ROMAN TO GEORGIAN, from BRONZE TO SILVER and LEAD to GOLD, just about every era and every type of metal came up on this dig!
For those of you who didn’t manage to make this permission on the last visit, the earliest reference to West Hendred is the granting of several hides of land to ‘Thegn Brihtric’ by Eadwig in AD 955 and by Edgar the Peaceful in AD 964 to Abingdon Abbey. In 1538 Corpus Christi College, Oxford became the Lord of the Manor. The college still owns considerable land in the village and surrounding area.
The Church of England parish church of the Holy Trinity is a 13th-century building on the site of a former wooden Saxon church, with small flying buttresses and a series of carved sundials on the wall outside.
The most notable historical element of the church is the floor tiling. These are good examples, if worn, of medieval tiles. Holy Trinity is a Grade I listed building as it is predominantly representative of one phase of building.
The Icknield Way https:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icknield_Way.org/wiki/Icknield_Way and The Ridgeway cross the parish in the south.
***This is due to the farmers concerns over traffic volume. He has stated once you arrive, you’re there to stay!
He has also made it clear that no dogs are allowed due to his concerns over livestock contracting disease from faeces.
